Where Silence Meets the Water

Loch Lomond
O Loch, your beauty keeps me dreaming,
The water knows me well.
I am a stranger here and cherish
what the silence does to me.

In memory of William Ferris, we spot a small hut along the path — a special place just beyond Rowchoish along Loch Lomond, right beside the West Highland Way. This Ferris Hut is a restored byre, renovated in 1965 as a shelter by the Scottish Rights of Way Society, in honour of William Ferris.
Ferris was a pioneer of walking and access paths in Scotland: co-founder of the Scottish Ramblers Federation, director and later chairman of the Scottish Rights of Way Society. In 1962 he even received an OBE for his dedication to outdoor life and walkers’ rights.

At the Inversnaid Restaurant we’re able to properly recharge with a warm pea soup and some bread. A moment to sit, relax, and rest our legs — because we still have a bit to go.

Finally the trail opens up a little and a flat area unfolds, with beach, grass, and views — the perfect spot to set up camp.
This was a heavy day, but what a reward at the end! 🥰
