We Did It

5:32 AM

Slept?! Hardly. The wind is already picking up and the rain is pounding mercilessly on the tent fabric. It’s 5:00 a.m. We crawl out of our sleeping bags — time to go. Waiting makes no sense, because from 10:00 a.m. onwards wind gusts of 70 km/h are forecast.

It’s wet. Very wet. Where the tent stood, there’s now a neat little pond. Everything is damp, everything is slippery, but we push on.

We’re over the mountain and finally on the descent. And all before ten — mission accomplished. The wind keeps getting stronger, but we walk on with peace of mind. No more worries about falling trees, raging waterfalls crossing the path, or routes that feel more like rivers than trails. It feels like the end of a thrilling chapter… and the beginning of a well-earned final stretch.

Haha, luckily we find a cappuccino and a tea at the visitor centre — exactly what we needed. Time to warm up and dry off, because we’re soaked to the bone. Steam rises from our jackets and the smell of wet rain gear mixes with fresh coffee… Scotland at its best 😅☕

And then… it happens. The finish point of the West Highland Way. We made it. We did it. 🥳

A special adventure, with breathtaking views, hot tea, cold feet, and the occasional midge attack — but above all: peace, space, and a head full of memories.

We did it at our own pace, enjoyed the journey, and only today did we really have to grit our teeth. The wind was unbelievably strong, but we stood firm.

Cars drive past honking, people wave. Beep beep — we did it! 🎉
