Between Sunshine and Storm Floris
7:31 AM
How lucky we are with the weather!!! Last night it rained for the first time — a cosy tapping on the tent fabric, as long as you’re warm and dry, of course. And we were 😌. Breakfast: a simple sandwich with peanut butter. Nothing fancy, but exactly right.

9:36 AM
We head into the Scottish wilderness — for a moment it feels like we’re disappearing off the radar 🙄😜. But that doesn’t last long… after a few kilometres we’re back on 4G. Ah yes, the romance of wilderness in 2025 😅📱

10:38 AM
At a ski-hut-style lodge we stop for a proper breakfast — and then who suddenly walks in? 😂 A real Scotsman, fully dressed in traditional outfit: tartan kilt, socks with fluffy bits, and an actual fanny pack (bum bag, that is). We both burst out laughing, but secretly we kind of want this now too. Maybe we should pick one up as a souvenir? 🥳🏴☠️

Hmm, the sky is closing in a bit and we walk alongside the road for a while. The landscape remains beautiful — rolling hills and green valleys — but the constant sound of passing cars occasionally pulls you out of the magic of the moment. Luckily, we know it’s only temporary — hopefully we’ll soon disappear back into the silence 🌿.

1:42 PM
Gos is completely in his element again — as soon as the path starts winding uphill, he dances his way up between the rocks. Backpack sitting just right, pace steady, as if he’s known this mountain for years.

2:24 PM
Along the way we hear that Storm Floris is on its way — with wind gusts up to 145 km/h 😳. So… what now?
Do we stay in the village and wait for the storm to blow over? Or do we push on today, covering a decent distance so we can leave the mountain early tomorrow morning before it really kicks off?
We weigh our options… and look up.

We decide not to stay in Kinlochleven, but to keep going as far as possible. The further we get today, the easier the final stretch will be tomorrow 🥳.
Although… from 10 a.m. onwards the storm is expected to hit, with heavy rain and strong gusts. That’s going to be something. But well — if we’re settled properly later, tent secure and out of the wind, we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Pff, that’s a bit of a letdown. We thought we’d “just keep walking”, but it turns out we still have to cross another pass to reach the correct mountain range towards Fort William. So yes — straighten the back, loosen the legs, here we go again.
And as if that weren’t enough, the midges are already lined up for their evening meal — how kind of them to be ready for our arrival 😒.

Once over the highest point, the search begins: where do we pitch the tent? That spot’s too exposed… that one’s full of midges… and someone’s already there. Ooh, a ruin? Hmm, spooky vibes — but hey, why not? Better ghosts than bites 😅.
